Chinese methanol prices continued to rise Monday, on the back of
firm buying interest from traders, who anticipated prices would increase
further.
CFR spot prices rose to $202.50/mt CFR China, up $5/mt from last Friday.
This was the first time since November 19 that methanol spot prices in
China have gone beyond the $200/mt CFR level, when prices were around
$202.50/mt CFR China.
In the eastern China market, prices on an ex-tank basis increased by Yuan
87.50/mt ($13/mt) from last Friday to around Yuan 1,875-1,925/mt, or about
$220/mt on an import parity basis. Chinese methanol prices started to rebound from mid-December,
and have since increased $41/mt, or around 25%.
